Strong Play Keeps Lunenburg’s Beck Busy Between the Pipes

It’s been a whirlwind couple of months for Lunenburg’s Madison Beck, and there are no signs of things slowing down.

The 17 year-old won gold with Team Canada at the World Under-18 Women’s Hockey Championships in Japan in January.

“It’s hanging up on my shelf in the middle of all the medals I have collected over the past few years,” says Beck.

“I have it displayed in the middle because it’s my favourite and the biggest one I have.”

Beck then recently represented Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.

She says both were great experiences.

“Especially for the maple leaf, that’s something I’ve wanted from such a young age. It was amazing to actually experience that,” says Beck.

“And then for Nova Scotia, I’ve played with Hockey Nova Scotia for the past six years. I was used to wearing those colours but everytime I pull on the jersey it’s still just as special.”

Beck, who plays for St. Paul’s School, was one of two goalies recently announced as first team all-stars in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council; a league featuring all prep schools in New Hampshire.

“That was a nice accomplishment to be awarded,” says Beck.

“I knew I had a strong season at school and it’s nice to be recognized.”

Her school hockey is done for the season but Beck and her club team, the Boston Junior Eagles, head to California for nationals early next month.

Beck says the Olympics is the ultimate dream and with a little luck and hard work, she just might get there.
