Student Walkout Planned For Friday; School Board Has Safety Concerns

The South Shore Regional School Board says it is aware of a possible student walkout on Friday.
Student groups across Nova Scotia have organized the walkout for lunch time tomorrow to show support for teachers in their labour dispute with the Nova Scotia government.
Chantelle Bulley-Langille is a grade 11 student helping to organizing the walkout at Liverpool Regional High School.
She says students understand teacher’s concerns and want a quick resolution.
“I just want some type of compromise so that us as students can get back to doing what we love and doing what’s going to help us further our careers in education and the teachers can get back to doing what they love.”
The board says while it endorses the students rights to express themselves they are cautioning parents this is not a school-organized event and will not be supervised.
She says students want their voices heard in this dispute.
“We’re hoping this is going to shed more light as to how the students feel about it and show that the teachers really do need the stuff that they’re asking for.”
