Teachers Reject Contract Offer From Province

Teachers have rejected a tentative contract agreement between their union and the province.

A province-wide vote was held Tuesday.

Ninety-four percent of Nova Scotia Teacher Union members voted 61 percent against the deal.

It proposed wage increases for teachers of three percent over four years.

NSTU President Shelley Morse says the vote indicates teachers are feeling undervalued and overwhelmed in the current education system.

Premier Stephen McNeil says he is disappointed the agreement was not ratified.

He says the government will take the next several days to consider its options and determine next steps.
