It’s the kind of news that makes you think about a blockbuster movie from the 70’s. I am listening for the Jaws music while I write this post…
As a kid I remember hearing about the “shark infested waters” in warmer areas like the Caribbean and thinking, glad I can swim in our ocean without thinking about what predator might be swimming around me. Maybe my peace of mind was only because back then tracking sharks in the area was not really a thing. Now it looks like we can describe Canada as having shark infested waters too.
The great whites are back as we saw a number of pings on the OCEARCH Shark Tracker this week.

The closest “encounter” was a ping just off the coast, looks like it was near the Ovens Natural Park on Tuesday when Goodall was detected.
I love her mug shot on the shark tracker!
Here fishy fishy, haha

CBC had a story around shark safety where the shark guy is suggesting that a good rule to follow is one that places like Australia use, where they have lived with sharks forever. If there is a shark sighting, wait two hours before you go in the water near that spot.
I feel a good rule is not to be scared, just be aware and be safe as you enjoy our beautiful Nova Scotian beaches.
