A local author has written a book about the lives of three first responders.
The Waiting Hours by Shandi Mitchell was launched earlier this week in Lunenburg.
She moved to the town last fall and says she researched emergency personnel.
“And then I started to do police ride alongs and sat in with 911 call takers,” says Mitchell.
“After that, I interviewed individuals in the profession and again, just listened to their stories.”
Mitchell feels the prep work helps give her characters a realistic and true feeling.
Though it follows some first responders, Mitchell feels the story also shows how we all rise and fall through the storms of life.
“At its core, the story for me is about the courage of the everyday person. How we all face the storms of life, how we hold on and how we fall and rise and how we keep going on.”
Mitchell says the three responders save lives but this story focuses on ways they save themselves.
The book is available online or in participating local book stores.
