Three Southwest NS Newspapers Merging Into One

Three weekly newspapers in Southwest Nova Scotia are merging into one.

The Shelburne County Coast Guard, Yarmouth Vanguard and Digby Courier will become the Tri-County Vanguard on February 2.

After 119 years, the last Shelburne Coast Guard newspaper edition will be distributed on January 26.

Managing editor, Jennifer Vardy Little, says the industry is changing.

“We have to continue to evolve with it, in order to stay relevant. This paper is going to be a nice, full paper with information from all three counties.”

Little says there were no job cuts and the office in Shelburne will remain open.

The paper is expected to have a circulation of about 7,000.

TC Transcontinental will continue publishing the newspaper.
