Town of Lunenburg Calls For Input On Armouries

The Town of Lunenburg is looking for private-sector input on the redevelopment of Lunenburg Armouries (Public Works Building) located on six town lots in Old Town at 177 Cumberland Street.

The historically significant building dates back to 1867 and is one-of-a-kind in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The town’s public works department is currently using the building for offices and as an equipment and supply depot.

“It’s clear the building needs to be repurposed to fit in with the rest of the neighbourhood”, said Mayor Rachel Bailey.

“We are also looking for more rational to move the public works to a new more practical location.”

Councillors and Mayor Bailey are hoping ideas will surface that will help the building fit in better in the residential area.

While zoned industrial, mayor Rachel Bailey says they’d like to see some ideas that would fit in better with the neighbouring buildings.

Bailey adds they’re looking for a sustainable use and are looking forward to hearing ideas from the private-sector.

The deadline for submitting ideas for the redevelopment of the Armoury building is November 30th.
