The Bridgewater Justice Center made an impression on Diana Whalen.
The minister of justice toured the facility this week ahead of the Liberal party’s caucus meeting in Lunenburg County.
Older courthouses don’t have holding cells or offer much separation between offenders and the public.
Whalen says the Bridgewater Center is focused on safety.
“This has a separate entrance way, separate handling, separate cells. It’s a lot safer for the lawyers who work here, for the public that are coming in and out, for our court staff.”
She’s also pleased with accessibility at the centre for people with mobility problems.
Whalen considers the center a model for future courthouses.
