There will soon be some very happy goats in Lunenburg County.
The Town of Lunenburg has entered into an agreement that will see all Christmas trees collected curbside this week delivered to Sweetwood Farm in Mahone Bay.
Owner Heather Squires says it’s a great partnership.
“I have a fair number of goats and they eat a lot of trees,” she says. “So, last year we probably had a couple of hundred trees and we had about 30 goats, and they were probably gone in about six weeks.”
Squires says the trees are more than a nice treat for the goats, the needles have medicinal properties that help keep them healthy.
She says this year she has 50 goats, so even if they got more than 300 trees, it wouldn’t be long before they were gone.
Meanwhile, Mayor Rachel Bailey says it’s a win/win situation.
“It worked out really well for everyone. It was actually a shorter distance for them to be trucked so it was very simple to accommodate this request.”
She says the idea came up last year and she was surprised how easy it was to accommodate.
Tree pick up in the Town of Lunenburg takes place this Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
