Town Of Shelburne Councillor Raises Concerns Ahead Of Election

A councillor for the Town of Shelburne says there could be a lot of new faces at the table after the fall election.

In a Facebook post last week Rick Davis says it looks like four out of five councillors could decide to call it quits.

He describes his time on council as challenging but rewarding and urges people to consider throwing their hat in the ring.

Davis declined an interview but says that filling that many seats could be difficult for a small town like Shelburne.

He says the best scenario would have several candidates for each riding so the people can choose the best person for the job.

Meanwhile, Mayor Karen Mattatall has declared her intention to re-offer.

“I’m not a person who thinks anyone should be there too long,” she says. “I’ve only done one term. But, we’ve certainly started a lot of things that are really important to the town and I would like to be involved to see it through.”

Mattatall says as far as the rest of the council goes she only knows of one councillor who has definitively said they won’t be running again.

She says they’ll have to wait and see what happens when the elections come around on Oct 15.
