Town Of Yarmouth Looks For Intervenor Status In Ferry Lawsuit

The mayor of Yarmouth says a lawsuit by the Progressive Conservatives and negative talk about the ferry service to Bar Harbour is very harmful.

Pam Mood says that’s why the town is considering to seek intervenor status in the lawsuit, which is aimed at forcing the province to release confidential details about is contract with Bay Ferries.

“We want our voice to be heard. It absolutely has to be a council decision; legal will be brought in to see what it looks like, the impact we can have.”

Mood says hundreds of people in the region and across the Province make their living from the multi-billion dollar tourism industry and don’t need to be worried about losing their livelihood.

She says the negative rhetoric around the ferry is more than just idol chat.

“We had one developer back out; we’re talking about millions of dollars. Others that I’ve spoken to, small businesses, large businesses, folks that are considering expanding, everybody becomes gun shy.”

Mood says the town has a responsibility to protect businesses and future growth.

The mayor will bring a resolution to council this week.
