Tri-County School Board Approves Budget

The Tri-County Regional School Board approved its 2016-2017 budget this week.

At a meeting on Tuesday, the board passed a balanced budget of $73.5 million.

The budget includes 11 new full-time equivalent teaching positions for new and expanding programs.

The positions will be used in early literacy, early intervention math support, the expansion of the SchoolsPlus and O2 programs, and for a new program called Discovering Opportunities.

There will be an increase in full-time equivalent positions for elementary school libraries, which was reduced in last year’s budget.

The board says reduced heating costs and the upcoming closure of Arcadia and South Centennial schools in Yarmouth had a big impact on balancing the budget.
