The superintendent of the South Shore Regional School is dismissing a letter to parents saying Bridgewater High is closing.
The letter, written by a member of the school advisory committee, says one of the review scenarios includes grade 10, 11, and 12 students moving to Park View.
However, Geoff Cainen says there is no school called Bridgewater High.
He says its called Bridgewater Junior-Senior High and closure has never been on the table.
“We are talking about the possibility of a re-distribution of the high school students to Park View and then the possibility of the Bridgewater Junior-Senior High School becoming a middle school.”
Cainen says there has absolutely been no discussion of Bridgewater Junior-Senior High completely closing.
He says the school is an important part of their inventory.
Cainen says ultimately the board has to make a final decision this spring.
Meanwhile, School Advisory Council Chairperson, Andrea McGinnis, says the letter doesn’t say Bridgewater Junior-Senior High will close.
She says part of the school known as Bridgewater High will close if a decision is made to send students to Park View.
McGinnis says the building may remain open, but a high school will be lost.
“The children will no longer have a certificate that says you graduated from Bridgewater High School.”
The next school review public meeting to discuss the Bridgewater and Park View families of schools will be held Thursday night from 6:30 until 8:30 at Park View.
