VIDEO: Families Gather To Remember Loved Ones

Families in Bridgewater gathered to remember loved ones they’ve lost.

This is the third year the National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims is being observed in Lunenburg County.

Ida Scott lost her son in 2004 when he fell asleep at the wheel while driving on Highway 103.

She says a divided highway could have saved her son’s life.

“So many accidents we hear where a driver went over the center line,” she says. “Well, with a twinned highway that’s not going to happen. They’ll hit that center piece but it’s not going to be as devastating as having a transport truck run over you.”

Approximately 1,900 people are killed on Canadian roads each year.

That’s about five people every day.
