Getting blood work done used to be fairly simple. I know there were a few lineups and waits here and there, but for the most part you could walk in, get jabbed and walk back out again.
I get they don’t want people lined up inside. Believe me, I don’t want to be a part of that, either. But is calling a central number really the best way?
It started with a call to my doctor. He wanted blood work. Actually, he wanted blood work in April, but we all know how that went. So we’ve been waiting for the opportunity to come around again. So I have the paper for blood work. Now you have to call the number.
First call, I got through to the cue. Never expected that. I had heard horror stories of waiting days on hold as cob webs formed around you, and here I had gotten right through. What a glorious day!
I was put on hold, waiting for the next available person to answer. About twenty-five minutes later, I heard the background music turn off and the phone start to ring through. I grabbed my phone… and somehow in trying to bring my screen back to life managed to hit the end call button. After a few seconds of cursing my fingers and lack of dexterity, I called again.
All lines busy, try again. And again. And again.
Finally, I got through again and back into the cue. The clock on my phone was showing just over thirty minutes when my call went through. I got my appointment, and I’m ready to go.
There was however, one question that could not be answered. I asked who was responsible for the music. I’m really not a fan. The person on the other end couldn’t answer, but did find it amusing. Apparently, some people like steel guitar instrumentals.
But if that’s my biggest complaint, I guess it’s not all that bad.
