There are still thousands without without power as a result of the first storm of the year.
Temperatures are dropping through the afternoon.
Fierce winds caused extensive damage to electrical infrastructure.
There are hundreds of outages in the Tri-Counties and along the South Shore affecting thousands of Nova Scotia Power customers.
Utility spokesperson Tiffany Chase says crews began restoration efforts after the winds dropped below 80 km/h.
Until then, she says it was too dangerous.
“Hurricane force winds gusting upwards 140 km/h and in some areas we have records of higher winds, overnight and into this morning. We have seen a significant amount of damage to our system as evidenced by the number of customer outages that we currently have.”
Chase says estimated power restoration times will vary as damage assessments continue.
