Abandoned Vessels Still A Priority For Bernadette Jordan

The MP for South Shore-St. Margaret’s says the issue of abandoned and derelict vessels is still a major priority for her coming into 2017.

Bernadette Jordan’s motion, which creates harsher penalties and better funding for communities, was well received by parliament in October.

She says she can already see progress being made.

“I know that they’ve started to compile lists of priority vessels that need to be removed, environmental hazards, things like that,” she says. “So, it’s nice to see that there’s going to be some action on it.”

Jordan says the treasury board is in the process of figuring out how much money can be committed to the issue.

But, she says that doesn’t mean she can stop working.

“I don’t think it’s out of my hands because I’m still very vocal about it.”

She says until she sees boats starting to be dealt with she will continue to fight for communities plagued by the unwanted vessels.
