Baillie Seeks Federal Action On Gasoline Taxation

South Shore gasoline prices have fallen some in the past week. Thats little consolation though for people like Nova Scotia’s Opposition Leader Jamie Baillie. He’s just returned from meetings in Ottawa with federal finance minister Joe Oliver where Baillie campaigned to remove the tax on top of tax at the gas pumps. Baillie says its unfair to motorists to be double taxed but he did get a committment from the finance minister. Baillie tells us: “When times are so tough, this is the way to motorists in Nova Scotia a little break. Obviously its not going to be accomplished in one meeting but the willingness to work together is there and I look forward to continuing to push to get rid of that extra tax.” Baillie hopes he’s begun the process that will next see Ottawa finance officials visiting the government of Nova Scotia to discuss the issue.
