A service that has helped out many residents during the drought conditions in Queens is coming to an end.
The Region of Queens Municipality has eneded its distribution of bottled potable water from the Ground Search and Rescue building in Brooklyn.
The program started in September during this summer’s drought conditions.
Mayor David Dagley says there has been a significant drop in the number of users.
“We were in a position where the need was greatly reduced, the water table has returned to the ground. There is still the odd well that is having difficulty but it’s very minor.”
Dagley says he believes the municipality handled the situation quickly with the help of EMO and many groups or organizations within Queens County.
Dagley says those people who still need free potable water can access the public well in Liverpool.
