Chester: Municipality Supports Visitor Information Centre

It’s a huge financial boost for the Visitor Information Centre in Chester. The municipality is providing the centre with $25,000 to help them operate through the tourist season. Over 5,100 people visited the information bureau last year, an increase of almost 70 per cent from 2012. Deputy Warden Floyd Shatford says the centre is a big help for people to find out what’s happening in the area. He says, “I think it gives it the hands-on touch where people can go in and talk and visit and get the first-hand information and I think it adds something unique to our community.” The cost for operating the centre during the spring and summer months is roughly $42,000. Money from the municipality helps cover expenses and allows the VIC to remain open in the fall.
