Chronicle Herald Newsroom Staff Votes For Strike

The newsroom of the province’s independently owned daily newspaper voted overwhelmingly in favour of walking off the job if a collective agreement can’t be reached.

Union president, Ingrid Bulmer says managment is doing everything that points to a lockout.

She says staff was asked to turn in cell phones, laptops and other newsroom equipment this Friday.

However, Herald CEO, Mark Lever wrote in a newspaper ad on the weekend that he has never planned to lockout the workers.

The union and management will return to the bargaining table Wednesday and Thursday for their last chance at averting work stoppage.
