Therapist Helps Beat The Winter Blues

Today is being called ‘Blue Monday’, deemed the saddest day of the year.

Kyla Murphy is a clinical therapist and says she’s not sure it can be pinned to a specific day, but says this time of year can be hard on many people.

“The bills are coming in from Christmas,” she says, “and one of the big things is that we’re not getting outside as much, we’re not socializing, we kind of isolate a little more in the winter time.”

Murphy says the solution shouldn’t be surprising.

Eat well and drink lots of water.

However, she says planning something to look forward to, can go a long way to lift your spirits.

“A girls weekend, or a little family vacation, or even a board games night with co-workers or friends, or something that can get you out and you can have that social interaction.”

She says even something as simple as picking up a new hobby can help you manage through the long, dark winter months
