DesBrisay Museum Ranked Number #1 By ANSM

The DesBrisay Museum is ranked first by the Association of Nova Scotia Museums.

The ANSM completed an evaluation on community museums and Bridgewater topped the list.

The DesBrisay Museum features collections, artifacts, and a research centre.

Director Barbara Thompson says Judge Mather Byles DesBrisay left his collection to the town following his death in 1900.

“And started a museum. It’s had many homes. It’s final home is, of course, the current one on Jubilee Road, which was established and built as a centennial project and will be 50 years old this year.”

Thompson says this is good news following some challenging times including major construction at the museum and the recent death of their program officer.

The Mahone Bay Museum is also listed in the ANSM’s top five.

Other museums in Cole Harbour, Cape North and Truro were also listed.

The association looked at things like operations, management, access to information, and community.
