Fire Damages Parts Of Bridgewater Home

No injuries after a chimney fire moved into the attic of a Bridgewater home on Tuesday evening.

Firefighters from the town along with Hebbville responded to Smith Avenue around 5 p.m.

A man and a woman were home at the time and escaped safely after reporting the incident.

Bridgewater Fire Chief Michael Nauss says a section inside the single-story bungalow suffered fire damage.

“A 4 x 8 foot area on the ceiling has been removed to make sure there is no extension in the attic area and some charred wood on the walls.”

A part of the outside was also destroyed.

Nauss says the cause was accidental.

“Above the fireplace is wooden headers. Over time they have heated up and actually ignited. They were burning inside the wall without anybody being aware of it.”

The couple were expected to spend Tuesday night at a family members house.
