He thrilled fans at the Scotiabank Centre for three seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads.
Now, Brandon Reid is behind the bench as an assistant coach with Canada’s sledge hockey team.
The 34 year-old began coaching after he was injured while playing in the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia.
Reid says it has been a great transition.
“Coaching is something that I want to further my career in and I’m excited that they gave me the call and I jumped right on board and it’s been quite a ride so far.”
Reid says working with sledge hockey players has been eye-opening.
He says his desire to win hasn’t changed and hopes Canada can take home the gold.
“I love learning. I loved learning when I was a player and if I had the opportunity to learn everyday as a coach, as an assistant coach, as a new coach coming in then I’m all smiles for that.”
Canada is back on the ice Wednesday at 7 p.m against the U.S.
Russia will play Korea before that at 12 p.m at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.
