Another South Shore goaltender is heading to Portage College in Alberta this fall.
Bridgewater’s Billy Clarke announced his commitment to the Voyageurs.
The 22 year-old played for the South Shore Mustangs and Lumberjacks before playing senior hockey last season in Newfoundland.
Voyageurs coach Arnie Caplan says Clarke is ready for the adjustment.
“I had heard nothing but positives about Billy, that he was a very good goaltender,” he says, “and he was a very legitimate guy that could come in and be a good college goalie.”
Caplan adds Clarke is a big addition.
“He’s a southpaw, and he’s a competitor. He’s played on a lot of teams that struggled at times in his junior career,” he says, “and he was a battler. And he’s a guy that’s capable of stealing games.”
Clarke joins ex-teammate Cole Skinner of Spectacle Lakes as they battle a third goalie to be number one.
Caplan says he is very confident with their goaltending situation ahead of training camp, which is expected to open up later this summer.
