A Lunenburg cabbie is driving into the sunset.
Freddie Romkey is retiring after over 60 years behind the wheel.
He started driving a taxi in 1956.
Romkey fondly remembers when Lunenburg was a busy fishing port.
“There was good driving then because the fishermen were making a lot of trips and they had a lot of boats everywhere.”
Romkey says he would drive fishermen to destinations all over the province from one end to the other.
He will be turning 90 this year.
Romkey plans on spending his retirement driving his grandson to hockey games and spending time with family.
He says he will continue to drive for pleasure but will offer rides to friends in need.
