The Folk Harbour Festival in Lunenburg kicks off tomorrow for its 31st season.
The event will see musicians come from as far away as Fiji to perform.
Program Chair Louis Robitaille says music has a power well beyond a pretty melody.
“It helps connect people, build community,” he says. “So, yeah, there is overreaching things of music that helps do different things than just to listen to it.”
He says it’s not a big festival, but that’s just the way he likes it.
“It’s not really our aim to get much bigger. Small is intimate, and intimate is nice to listen to music [in].”
Robitaille says the festival is organized by people who are passionate about folk music.
He says they’re so invested they’ve already begun to plan for next year’s festival.
The event kicks off with an aboriginal conference at 9 o’clock tomorrow.
