Lunenburg Rum Setting Sail ‘Round The World

A voyage Captain Jack Sparrow would be proud of.

Ironworks Distillery in Lunenburg is filling four barrels of rum to stow aboard the Picton Castle, which is about to set sail on an 18-month trip around the world.

Co-Owner of Ironworks Distillery Pierre Guevremont says their rum will head to Panama, the Galápagos Islands, Pitcairn and a number of other exotic locations in the South Pacific.

He says he’s quite jealous of their trip.

“The links between Lunenburg, the ocean and rum are many and historical,” he says.

“And we’re glad to continue that.”

Four barrels of rum from the Ironworks Distillery in Lunenburg will be be stowed away in the hold of the Picton Castle, which is getting ready for an 18-month trip around the world.

Co-Owner of Ironworks Distillery Pierre Guevremont (GEV-RA-MON) says history shows rum is better once it’s taken an ocean trip.

He says it has to do with the movement of the waves.

“Historically rum spent a lot of time on the ocean travelling from the Caribbean, to Europe and to North-Eastern North America, so certainly we are following long tradition,” he says.

“But nobody I know of is doing anything quite like this right now.”

When the Picton Castle docks back in Lunenburg next May, Guevremont says they will begin selling their rare-edition rum.

To follow the “Round the World Rum” voyage, head to the Ironworks Distillery or Picton Castle.
