Nature Conservancy Tracking Birds In Queens, Shelburne

People will be counting birds along the coast this weekend in Queens and Shelburne counties.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is holding its sixth annual Wild for Waterfowl bird survey.

There were 2,300 birds identified last year, including 62 different species.

Stewardship coordinator, Doug van Hemmessen, says the weather can play a factor.

“That’s the limitation at picking one day when it may not be the best day to count them. They may be there but they might be hold up somewhere because of high winds or something of that nature.”

Data will be collected to help the NCC and Bird Studies Canada track birds and their trends.

Roughly 30 volunteers are involved between Sable River and Port Mouton.
