Nova Scotia Expecting Up To 30 Syrian Families In December

Up to 30 Syrian families could arrive in Nova Scotia next month.

The immigration minister says they are part of the initial number of privately sponsored refugees coming to Canada.

Director of the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, Gerry Mills, says they will go to communities where they are sponsored.

She says they have a specific need for volunteers.

“Anybody who speaks Arabic, who can volunteer some time, please call 211 and we will get that logged and get back to you.”

Nine hundred and seventeen calls have been made to 211 to offer assistance to families.

The federal government has issued a new target of bringing in 10,000 refugees by the end of this year.
