TURNER, Elsie Genevieve (Gidney) “GG” – Age 92, of West Northfield, Lunenburg Co., died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Born in Sandy Cove, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Sydney Lambert and Edna Genevieve (Bruce) Gidney.
GG had many enjoyments over the years – playing cards, Toronto Blue Jays, and the daily puzzles from the newspaper. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great grandchildren stopping by for a game of any kind. Anybody that knew GG, knew that she was very competitive when it came to crib, and if you stopped by for a visit when an intense game was happening, you might as well go home and come back for a visit another time. GG also enjoyed spending time sitting on the deck looking out on Lake Mush-a-Mush, listening to the loons and watching the boats go by. GG was also very proud of her very extensive library where she spent many hours reading and organizing books.
GG was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, West Northfield; member of the Bridgewater Legion; past member of the Dorcas Sewing Circle and Bridgewater Rifle Club. GG was also active in the family business for 70 years right up until her passing.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Heather Turner, Sweetland; grandchildren, Krista (Mark) Wilson, Natasha (Jason) Cottreau, Mark (Tracy) Zinck, Brent (Erin) Zinck, Erin (Charles) Joudrey; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Wilson, Winston Wilson, Ethan Zinck, Carly Zinck, Harrison Cottreau; and brother, James “Jimmy” Gidney, St. Stephen, NB. GG was predeceased by her husband, Harris Turner; daughter, Karen Zinck; and son, John (Jackie) Turner.
By personal request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2026, in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, West Northfield, with Rev. Annette Smith and Rev. Catherine Robar officiating. Private family interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield.
