Roy “Bup” Alvin Zwicker

The family of Roy “Bup” Alvin Zwicker, age 87, announces with deep sadness his passing on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Bup passed away peacefully at his home in Chester Basin, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Western Shore, he was a beloved son of the late George and Nettie (Swinimer) Zwicker.

Known to many as Dad, Poppy Apple, Papa, Bup and friend. Dad enjoyed spending time at the camp, in his garden and among his many apple trees. He could often be found making apple pies with John and we all enjoyed eating them. He had a hand in building his family their homes and enjoyed being a part of their firsts. He would say, “I’m just here for the beer”. He was a master at playing crib and enjoyed his weekend card games with Wayne. He taught us girls how to ride a bike and drive a standard car. He had the patience of a saint. He would always find a way to make the kids in his life happy. He made a shovel fire pit in the yard for a hotdog roast, made slime, forts on the floor, catching fireflies, countless swims at the lake, crazy carpeting (if you know you know), skating and just a beer and ballgame. Even with a grade four education, he was the smartest person we ever knew and touched more lives than we will ever know. The blending of the two families began with his first date with Linda at bingo and a drive-in. He had a knack for making everyone feel loved and included. His vacation time was spent at camp hunting with the boys and Savanna. The white tail deer population just increased.

Thank you to everyone for their kind words and visits with Dad. He loved seeing everyone. There is no use in grumbling. All we can say (in the words of dad) “Thank you, thank you – double thumbs up”.

Bup is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Linda; his daughters, Dianne Dorey, Christine (Scott) Swinimar of Beech Hill and Candace (Patrick) Duncan of Truro; and his son, John Hubley of Rothesay, NB. He was a proud grandfather to Tamara (Josh) Marchbank, Neysa (Matt) Dorey, Kayle Dorey, Evan (Savanna) Swinimar, Alex (Reign) Swinimar, Addison Duncan, and Elsie Duncan; and a cherished great-grandfather to Breya Marchbank. He also leaves behind his sisters, Linda (Garnet) Rafuse, June Zwicker, of Chester Basin; his brothers, Wayne (Sandra) Zwicker, Ira Zwicker, also of Chester Basin. Sister in laws Sandy Zwicker and Jean Zwicker, as well as several nieces, nephews.

Besides his parents, Bup was predeceased by his sisters, Sally Demont and Lillian Dorey, and his brothers, Laurie, Donald, and Ken Zwicker.

In keeping with Bup’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no public memorial service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bup’s memory may be made to the Gray Grant Society in Chester Basin or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
