Park View Sweeps Basketball, Cook’s Cup Begins In Yarmouth

It was a Park View sweep yesterday in the 1st annual Bruce Sarty Memorial Bursary Fundraiser. The JV Girls topped Barrington 70-61 in the opener. The Panther varsity girls basketball team then beat New Germany 62-23. The finale had the Park View varsity boys team defeating Bridgewater 114-85. Brendan Balcolm led the way, scoring 30 points for the panthers. Brogan Skinner also had 18 points.

The 8th annual Cook’s Cup high school hockey tournament opened in Yarmouth last night. In the boys division, the Yarmouth Vikings dumped Par en Bas 8-1. In the girls division, it was the Vikings getting by Par en Bas 5-4. Play continues today at the Mariners Centre.

In the NHL, Darren Helm scored twice as the Red Wings edged Montreal 3-2. It’s the fourth straight loss for the Habs. Tampa Bay defeated Ottawa 4-1, Calgary over Buffalo 4-3 and Winnipeg beat Columbus 6-4. Other winners include Florida, Nashville and the Flyers.

In the NFL, the Arizona Cardinals clinched a playoff berth with a 23-20 victory over Minnesota.
