Passenger Numbers Released For Yarmouth Ferry

Bay Ferries Limited released up to date passenger numbers for its Yarmouth to Portland vessel, the CAT today.

During the first week of service from June 15-22, daily average traffic levels were 181 passengers and 78 automobiles.

From June 23-30, the daily average crept up to 285 passengers and 97 automobiles.

Last week up until July 7, the daily average was 307 passengers and 106 automobiles.

Bay Ferries says they refuse to speculate on what end of season passenger numbers may be, and have not provided a targeted passenger number.

The company says 1,200 room nights have been sold in Nova Scotia as part of Bay Ferries package products.

Bay Ferries and the province initially refused to release passenger numbers this early in the season, however the City of Portland revealed they would be releasing passenger numbers before July 15.

Also, Bay Ferries negotiated with Portland to remove three of the scheduled nine ‘blackout’ days, when the ferry won’t be able to dock in the city due to a high volume of marine traffic at the terminal.

A further update will be issued next month.
