Province Announces Where To Buy Weed – Updated 3:00pm

The province has just announced which NSLC outlets will be first to sell cannabis.

Nine locations across the province will retail products in July.

But depending where you live in the South Shore, you will have to travel.

The Yarmouth NSLC will sell through their location on Starrs Road.

After that, the next stop to purchase weed is in the city.

Halifax will have two outlets, Dartmouth gets one, Lower Sackville, Truro, New Glasgow, Amherst and Sydney River pick up the remainder.

MLA for Lunenburg West and Justice Minister Mark Furey says despite the distance between stores, cannabis will still be accessible.

“Recognizing there are gaps in the map, we also believe that the alternate options of purchase are reasonable and will afford those Nova Scotians who choose to consume an opportunity to access product.”

Furey says consumers can purchase cannabis through the NSLC online and have it delivered to their home.

But that full details on how online sales will function are still being worked out.

He says opening retail outlets for cannabis sales across the province doesn’t make economic sense.

“Why would we invest significant amounts of money to build new infrastructure when we don’t know that that store front retail model is the best delivery model?”

Furey added, residents will be allowed to grow up to four plants per household.

How the NSLC stores will be configured is also a work-in-progress, but President of the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation Brett Mitchell says each retail store would require between 850 and 2,000 square feet be available to sell cannabis.

That is to ensure the product is kept separate from alcohol and out of sight.
