Queens Hockey Teams Support Young Player Diagnosed With Cancer

The local hockey community in Queens County is rallying around a 15 year-old boy recently diagnosed with cancer.

The Liverpool Privateers and South Shore Major Bantam Lumberjacks will play a game against each other in support of Brooklyn’s Kiefer Huskins.

President of the Liverpool Privateers, Bruce Inglis, says they wanted to help.

“To maybe raise a few dollars for his family because, of course, there is a lot of expenses when you are dealing with a health issue in Halifax and you’re in and out; lots of gas and lots of meals,” says Inglis.

“I think it will be a lot of fun for people in the community and give Kiefer a boost.”

The game will be played Saturday night at 7 p.m at Queens Place Emera Centre and will include a silent auction.

Inglis says the community is on board.

“Can’t describe how fast silent auction items were coming in to my text and the Privateers page last night. Liverpool is a great community and just overwhelming that people want to show their support that much.”

Huskins played with the Major Bantam Lumberjacks this season, notching 14 goals and 21 assists in 31 regular season games.

Tickets for the game will be available at the door.
