Several groups in the South Shore are waiting for refugees to arrive from Syria.
John MacDonald has been working closely with a few in Lunenburg and Queens counties.
Thousands of dollars in cash and donations have been collected to help refugees start a life here.
He says its a step in the right direction.
“If no one does anything, than nothing will be done,” he says. “Maybe Canada can set example to other countries who may be reluctant to act.”
MacDonald says if you can’t afford to help financially, a smile can go a long way to make the newcomers feel at home.
